It’s All About Jesus

The apostle Paul writes in Philippians 2:6-11 regarding Jesus Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.  Scholars believe this poem in Philippians is one of the earliest hymns sung in the ancient church describing what is called the Incarnation, that Christ took on flesh to become Immanuel, God with us.  There are not a lot of places in the New Testament that describe the birth of Jesus but there is no doubt that this belief is vital to the life and work of the Church.  Christians were meant to carry on the work of redemption through incarnational ministry.  In other words, Christ through his Spirit, indwells, equips and sends disciples to bring grace and redemption to the world. What we profess around the Table about the body and blood of Christ, we do when we leave the worship assembly because Christ is in us, Colossians 1:27.  The angel’s announcement at that the birth of Jesus is made joy, peace and good will because God is at work in the lives of His people.  Paul reminds us in Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
