The Battle Is Not Ours
There are some battles in life that feel too big for us.
We see the hurt. We hear the reports. We feel the fear. We wonder what we are supposed to do next. And sometimes, in the desire to fix things, it is easy to forget one very important truth:
The battle is not ours. It is the Lord’s.
In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat received frightening news that a vast army was coming against Judah. The situation was terrifying and overwhelming.
Jehoshaphat did what is often necessary when facing a battle that cannot be controlled or feasibly won—he turned to God.
He called the people together to seek the Lord. And God gave them these words:
“Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.”~ 2 Chronicles 20:15
What a powerful reminder.
God didn’t tell them there would be no battle, and He didn’t tell them to pretend everything was fine.
He simply reminded them Who was fighting for them.
Sometimes standing firm doesn’t mean fighting harder. Sometimes it means standing still long enough to see what God will do.
Jehoshaphat told the people to believe in the Lord, and they went out to face the enemy—not with fear, but with praise. Before they ever saw the victory, they began worshiping the One who would give it.
Isn’t that faith?
We don’t always know how God will work. We don’t always know when He will answer. And we certainly may not understand why He has allowed particular battles to threaten our lives.
But this can be known:
God is bigger than the battle.
God is stronger than the enemy.
God is already at work—even when His work cannot yet be seen.
Maybe today there is a battle that has consumed your thoughts, threatened your peace, and exhausted your soul.
Maybe you are trying to figure out how to fix something that was never yours to fix.
Lay it down.
Pray about it. Trust God with it—and then let Him be God.
The battle may be in front of us, but the Lord goes before us.
So stand firm.
Not because the battle is small.
Not because the outcome is obvious.
But because our God is greater than anything we face.
The battle is not ours.
The battle belongs to the Lord.
And when that truth is remembered, our battles can be faced, no matter their size, with a peaceful heart and a confident faith.
