Forgetting Familiar

Forgetting Familiar

As we reflect on the past year of 2023, we have faced many challenges and hardships and we have had to step outside of our comfort zone. Naturally, as human beings, we all don’t like being out of our comfort zone. Why? Because it is uncomfortable or even unfamiliar, however, have you ever questioned maybe this is exactly where God wants you to be, uncomfortable in unfamiliar territory?  Today we cover the story of Jesus beginning his ministry in his hometown of Nazareth. It’s interesting to think that the town that knew Jesus the best, the town that was most familiar with the Messiah, was the same town that drove him out and tried to throw him off a cliff! Again, these are the people who know Jesus, they know his parents, and they have watched him grow up in front of their eyes and yet once he proclaims he is the Messiah, they try to get rid of him. We as a people really will do whatever it takes to be comfortable. But just like the religious people in our text, are we as God’s people missing out on his promises because we won’t step outside of our comfort zone, and stand in that unfamiliar territory? Throughout the Bible, we see so many of God’s people leave what was familiar to them. They had to step outside of their comfort zone and do some things that had never been done before. Through their faith in God and the favor of the Lord over their lives, they were able to achieve greatness for the Kingdom. God loves you and he has greatness in store for you too. So, let’s start the new year right and commit to Forgetting Familiar and hopefully see that clinging to what is familiar can diminish our Faith, our Favor, and our Focus.
