A Faith that Lasts, Caleb McCaughan

Church family, I am humbled and honored to be presented before you as a candidate for the Pulpit Minister position here at Manchester Church of Christ. Being a part of this church body for the past two years has been a tremendous blessing for myself, Taylor, Axel, and I know that will continue to be the case for our coming Baby #2. This year, we’ve been working through the theme of discipleship and are currently in the implementation phase. As we enter week four, our focus is on loving God with all of our mind and cultivating the discipline of being a people of the Word. The Bible is not merely an academic textbook meant to be read in order to harbor knowledge; rather it is a collection of letters that God has written to His people. As the author of Hebrews states, “the word of God is alive and active” and it penetrates our very lives. Studying Scripture requires an open heart and mind, allowing God’s teachings to guide our actions and decisions and compels us to trust and obey. After all, isn’t that the point of discipleship? To be a part of God’s restoration plan for all of creation by reflecting on His commands and precepts and being “doers of the word” (James 1:22). I’m grateful to be a part of this congregation and it is my hope and prayer that we will continue to walk the path of discipleship, immersing ourselves in Scripture, building a faith that lasts, and being active participants of God’s kingdom together for years to come.
