Happy Mother’s Day weekend!
Engraved on Divine Palms, Mother’s Day 2025
This weekend, our cities and towns buzz with restaurant reservations and florist deliveries. But this Sunday, I invite you to look beyond the cards and celebrations to a profound truth: God’s nurturing heart, revealed in Isaiah 49:13-16 and Luke 13:34.
Scripture asks, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast?” (Isaiah 49:15). The answer seems obvious—no. Yet God declares, “Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” This isn’t casual remembrance but a costly promise, fulfilled in Christ’s pierced hands on the cross. God’s love surpasses even the strongest human bond, nurturing us when human love falters.
We all know moments of feeling forgotten—by others, or even God. Isaiah captures this raw lament: “The LORD has forsaken me” (49:14). Yet God responds with compassion, like a mother hen longing to gather her chicks (Luke 13:34). This Mother’s Day, we’re reminded that God’s love never fails, even when we feel alone or fall short as parents ourselves.
This truth challenges us. First, our identity rests not in imperfect human relationships but in being engraved on God’s palms. Second, nurturing others—whether as parents, mentors, or friends—reflects God’s sacred work. Third, we’re called to build a church that shelters the vulnerable, showing God’s care to a hurting world.
Join me Sunday as we celebrate the God who nurtures us perfectly, whose love is etched forever in divine hands. Let’s pray we become a community that mirrors this unfailing love.

Dinner Table Conversations:
Adult & Teen Table Talk:
- How might past experiences with your parents (positive or negative) shape the way you view God? What does it look like to let God’s perfect love redefine those perceptions?
- The sermon challenges the cultural value of self-sufficiency, saying true maturity involves dependence on God’s protection. Why is it hard to embrace vulnerability before God, and how can we grow in this area?
Little Learners’ Table Talk:
- The Bible says God loves us like a mommy loves her baby (Isaiah 49:15). What are some ways your mom or someone special takes care of you when you need help?
- God takes care of us like a parent who never gives up. Can you say a little prayer or draw a picture to thank God for His big love?
