An Unwelcome Guest

Church family, welcome to our services! After not meeting together last week, I am grateful that we can meet today. Our time of fellowship and worship is a needed boost for me and I hope it is the same for you.

This week we will take some time to focus on a strange event in chapter five of the gospel of Mark. While studying this passage, I couldn’t help but reflect on my experiences as a parent. It is amazing how often our children will resist our healthy guidance. They do this for many reasons at different stages of life. Oftentimes resistance comes from a place of fear or indifference. Sometimes they just simply feel that they know better than mom and dad. Regardless, much of my time as a father has been spent working with my children to help them trust what I am advising.

In our text today, we will see much resistance to Jesus. It is so easy for us to read the Bible and say, “Why don’t you just trust him and allow him to help you?” I wonder what others would say about our lives if they were reading the story of our life. Would they wonder why we make the choices that we make? Would they wonder why we sometimes fail to fully embrace the guidance of our heavenly father?
