Sharing Jesus, part 3: Who Should Share Jesus
After his resurrection, Jesus came to his apostles and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20).
We know this as the “Great Commission” in which Jesus instructed those he had mentored in ministry to continue to share the good news he had taught about the Kingdom of God. As the apostles and other disciples went about sharing the good news of Jesus, the church grew rapidly. It crossed linguistic,economic, social, racial, gender, and geographic barriers as thousands of people from every walk of life came to believe in the risen Savior of the world.
How do we replicate that? We read about the preaching of Peter, Philip, and Paul, and the teaching of Priscilla and Aquilla, and we may rightly feel intimidated. They and others like them were powerhouses for the Lord. But they weren’t the only ones sharing Jesus. The church couldn’t have grown and thousands and thousands of people across the known world wouldn’t have been saved if it wasn’t for ordinary people like you and me telling their families, friends, and neighbors about the God who loved the world so much that he sent his Son to redeem them. The need for the good news of Jesus is just as great today as it ever has been, and God has equipped us to be the messengers who share that news. Let’s talk today about who exactly has a role to play in this great ongoing mission.
