This is Just the Beginning

This past February some members of the youth group traveled to Winterfest in Tennessee. Winterfest is a conference with over 4,000 teens in attendance. We all had a great time fellowshipping, singing, and traveling through the book of Acts. The theme of Winterfest was “And the word of God spread” (Acts 6:7). Our Winterfest trip was a great first step in the right direction. Manchester has been a pivotal pillar for youth ministry in the northeast Churches of Christ for serval years. Today we are at a new beginning or a start to a new era of youth ministry here at the Manchester Church of Christ. John K. Jenkins Sr. said it best when he stated “before you can build an effective ministry, you must lay a firm foundation. The first step in laying that foundation is developing a clear vision and mission statement.” Our theme for the youth ministry this year is Firm Foundation (1 Corinthians 3:11) and this year and for years to come the Manchester youth group will commit to consistency. We will follow the same structure that the first disciples followed as they began their new era of ministry. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”-Acts 2:42. I believe if we can commit to being consistent just like the original followers of Jesus, we will be blessed in the same manner that they were. “And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:47) Some people call this Sunday Easter, others call it Resurrection Sunday either one, this Sunday allow me to give a small recap of our trip to Tennessee, present a short video made by the teens and cast a new vision for the youth ministry and the direction of where we are going. (Proverbs 29:18)
