This Youth Sunday, we are exploring the story of Jesus calming the storm in Mark 4:35–41 and were reminded of a powerful truth: storms are a part of life. Whether they come because of our own choices, spiritual warfare, personal growth, or simply living in a broken world, Jesus never promised a storm-free life. He promised His presence in the storm.
The challenge is not avoiding the storm but learning how to survive it as followers of Christ—what I call “Storm Troopers.”
First, we must remember it’s going to rain. Jesus told His disciples they would face trials, so we shouldn’t be surprised when difficulties come. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening?” we can prepare our hearts to trust God when it does.
Second, we learned that there are storms God delivers us from, and there are storms God develops us in. Sometimes God removes the storm, but other times He uses it to strengthen our faith, deepen our character, and prepare us for what lies ahead. Noah, the three Hebrew men, and countless others remind us that God’s presence is often more powerful than His removal of the trial.
Finally, we were reminded that Jesus is the Missing Peace. While the disciples panicked, Jesus rested because He trusted the Father completely. His peace wasn’t the absence of the storm—it was confidence in God’s power. The same Savior who spoke, “Peace! Be still!” still has authority over every storm we face today.
No matter what season you are in, remember: the storm may be real, but so is our Savior. Keep your faith in Christ, trust His timing, and know that He is in the boat with you.
