My Part in God’s Work

The Mission of God & Us, part 5: My Part in God’s Work

Good morning, Church and guests! It’s good to be here today to praise God and thank him for his love and grace. As we near the end of this year we have an opportunity to reflect on some of the things that have shaped our lives over the last twelve months. As is the case every year, our lives have been a mixture of ups and downs, but each thing we’ve experienced was an opportunity to learn more about God and ourselves. That’s really been the goal of this series that concludes today on “The Mission of God & Us.”

We’ve talked about how God’s goal is to share every blessing he possesses with his creation, and God is still bringing that to reality in spite of humanity’s best efforts to ruin things through our rebellion and sin.  We’ve seen how Jesus came and perfectly demonstrated the way to have a full relationship with the Father, even though it meant that Jesus would have to humble himself, submit to a sacrificial lifestyle, and die for those the Father loves (us).  We’ve also seen how Jesus shared that mission with others he mentored and equipped so that the good news of God’s reign would be spread over all the earth.  And last week we talked about some ways the congregation here is carrying that same mission forward in our time and place.

Today, it’s time to talk about how you and I find our place in that work.  I’ve said before that you and I are meant to not only receive God’s blessings but also to pour them out on the people around us.  We are his vessels doing his work in his name. What a great honor that is for us to be included in this way. But God expects us to work at it and grow as we go so that the glory of his name continues to reach into every dark corner of creation. Are you doing your part? If not, why not start today?
