Let them Come

Let them Come

Let them Come

Next Saturday morning (May 28) from 8-Noon we’re hosting a Free Tag Sale here at the church building. It’s a simple way for us to share with our neighbors and bless those in our community. If you have any new or gently used household items, toys, clothing, etc. that you’d like to donate, you can bring it to the church building starting Wednesday afternoon. If you’d like to come and help set up Saturday morning or put things away in the afternoon, see Malik Champlain or Haylie Yeats. And if you could come and be a helpful host to those who show up, please come and welcome our neighbors like Jesus would. We are, after all, the body of Christ.

If you’re wondering why we invest our time in such things, consider the way Jesus lived and taught us to live. While accumulation is the preferred practice of the world, we are to remember that “it’s more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). We want to be so selfless with our neighbors that it makes them wonder why we would do such things. By demonstrating freedom from the enslavement of things, we create an opportunity for people to see a special freedom we find through faith in God. And we need to be ready to explain it when they ask.

While there are no strings attached to the Free Tag Sale, that doesn’t mean that we can’t tell our neighbors that these items are given freely because Jesus freely gave himself for us. We don’t want to make the mistake of patting ourselves on the back as if our generosity is some badge of superiority; that would be a sad error on our part. Instead, let’s be sure to give sincerely so that this ministry might overflow “in many thanksgivings to God” (2 Corinthians 9:10-15).
