Happy New Year! This is an exciting time for us as a church as we continue to push ahead in God’s mission. It seems like we’ve been in a constant state of transition for many years now, and maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be. If we sit still for too long, our muscles atrophy and our resolve weakens. We become apathetic and lose our zeal for the Lord, his people, and his work. And we cannot do that. Not ever.

God has called us to be his people, and his people know special blessings as well as special burdens. Jesus showed us what that looked like, and now we walk the same path he did—cross and all. And that is good news. It doesn’t sound like good news, and many times it doesn’t feel like a blessing, but walking in the way of Christ is the only way we make it to eternal life with the Father (John 14:6).

As we enter 2023, we have the responsibility to make the most of our opportunities to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord (2 Peter 3:18). But how do we do that? Is it by adding more prayer, more study, more service, and more fellowship to our already busy lives? It might be exactly that. It might also be trimming things from our lives that distract us from our mission and divert our focus from being on the things God says are most important. There are lots of ways to become better aligned with our Creator and King, and I hope to talk about some of them this morning. As always, if you have questions or needs, please let me know. I’m here to help as we grow and glorify our God together.  “To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen” (2 Peter 3:18b).
