Friendship Evangelism

My wife and I are blessed to be here this morning! We have so many wonderful memories of our almost 18 years that we ministered here.  This will always be our ‘favorite’ congregation!!

We are going to look at evangelism this morning and the priority that is a must-have in the life of every Christian and every congregation of the Lord’s people.

When we were transitioning to Texas eight years ago we met Laura. She was our real estate agent who represented us as we contracted our first home on Kelvington Drive in Anna. We depended on her to visit the site and give us reports on the progress that was being made each week. When we finally arrived in October 2015 and moved in, we developed a relationship with Laura. We had lunch together and began to talk with her and eventually her husband Tim as well. We baptized Laura about four months later into Christ and she started attending the High Point Church of Christ in McKinney, Texas.

This past weekend we were in the Rochester, New York area so that we could attend the wedding of our oldest granddaughter Sarena. (Grandpa performed her wedding)!  During the reception, I sat down next to a man named Calvin. He was very quiet at first but the more I engaged him in conversation the more he opened up. When we parted company a few hours later, I hope that I left the door open to more conversations and a friendship, when we move to Rochester next spring.

I say all this to encourage us all to be mindful of people around us who need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray that God will give you opportunities to befriend people and have conversations that will lead people to Jesus Christ. Paul writes, “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ…” Col 4:2f.
