Life after the
Resurrection of Jesus is so vastly different than life before that
Sunday morning when the two Mary’s found the tomb empty (Matthew
28:1-10). We, as believers, have access to God’s revelation in
Scripture that wasn’t even written until two thousand years ago.
Scripture tells us not only about Jesus’ resurrection, but also about
his mission, his sending his disciples to continue to do the Father’s
will, and about Jesus’ exaltation at God’s right hand in glory. So we
know some pretty significant things already:
- The Lord is alive.
- The Lord is powerful.
- The Lord is exalted over sin and death.
- The Lord has given us a mission.
- The Lord will fulfill his covenant promises and wants to us to share in that victory.
I could keep on typing things we know, but that’s enough to make my point:
We have no reason to go on living like we’re still in the hopelessness of “Friday,” when we know by faith and by the two-thousand year witness of the faithful church that “Sunday” came and changed everything. We KNOW that God is faithful and that the things that threaten us and scare us the most are things that God has shown his power over. We KNOW that God will win a final, decisive victory over sin and death when the time is right–and God is worthy of our trust and our submission, because everything he does has redemptive intent.
I know that sometimes we still feel like we’re living in the “Friday” of darkness and discontent. That’s as true for me as it is for you, but I also know that Resurrection happened and that our God still hears our cries and our prayers. So don’t give up. Don’t turn your back on the one who gave his life for you. It may feel like Friday, but Sunday is coming. It did once, in a big way, and it will again. And when it does…. 🙂
Lord willing, we’ll talk more about some of things things on Sunday.
I hope to see you soon,Patrick
P.S. I attached a song that I’ve loved for many years. It helps strengthen me when I feel tired, defeated, or alone. What God did for the Israelite slaves, he has also done for us in Jesus Christ. I hope this song encourages you.
