What Really Matters in the End?

What Really Matters in the End?

What Really Matters in the End?

Have you ever noticed how quickly life seems to go by? The older you get, the more quickly days, months, and years seem to pass. I guess it’s only natural that we want to make the most of our time.

We live in a world that is obsessed with doing. With being productive. With building resumes, earning degrees, achieving goals, and checking the boxes. But is that really where we find our sense of purpose? Is our success or productivity where we find meaning in life?

Solomon would argue that we’re missing the point of it all if that’s what we think. In fact, he’ll be quick to remind us that everything will eventually fade away and be rendered as “meaningless” (Eccl. 11:8). He’ll proclaim loudly that whatever we build or strive for under the sun, wherever we look to for value and significance, will be reduced to nothing in the end.

So, what do we do? Do we just sit back and wait for this life to be over? That’s not Solomon’s point, and that’s not the takeaway we should have of followers of Jesus either. Rather, Solomon wants us to understand that life’s meaning isn’t found in what we do under the sun, but in who we remember above it. That’s what we’ll be exploring this Sunday.
