The God Who Comforts Us
“The Lord is my shepherd” is one of the most well-known and beloved lines in Scripture. Those words form the beginning of the 23rd Psalm and lead us into a beautiful poem that reminds us of how much we need our God. There are times when life is flowing so smoothly that we can forget how much we rely on God. But there are those other times—and many of us are right in the middle of them—when we remember that we don’t have nearly as much power or control as we’d like to think. In those times, we need God’s comfort and strength and provision and guidance and presence and victory. In the weeks that remain of 2021, I plan to preach about some of those things, using Psalm 23 as our inspiration. I hope this series will give you a fresh hearing of that old psalm and that you’ll become hungry to draw even closer to our God. This series will also have homework….
Last fall we engaged in 40 focused days of prayer, and so many of you loved it that I thought we should do it again. There’s a printed schedule available at the Welcome Center in the foyer, and I’ve already emailed it to you as well, if you’re on the church’s email list. Please commit to spending at least a few minutes in prayer each day, and if you need help focusing on something in those prayers, the schedule will help with that. Just don’t let the schedule limit your own conscience or imagination. Talk to God about whatever is on your heart. He wants to hear it, and he can handle it no matter what it is. Life is short, and life is busy, and those are reasons we should spend even more time with the Lord. If you need any assistance at all, please let me know. The 40 Days of Prayer schedule can also be found here.
