The Death of the Son of God
Good morning, Church family. We are in the middle of a very busy season here at Manchester. Just in the last few weeks we’ve had our annual Harvest Costume Carnival, Inspire New England, and the Ladies’ Tea, among other things. Before long we’ll host another blood drive, a marriage seminar, and our big Youth Rally, in addition to the ongoing ministries of GriefShare and FriendSpeak. Whew. There’s a lot happening—and that’s just counting some of the things we organize as a church. Add in all the things we all have going on in our home lives and work lives and school lives, and it fills the calendar really quickly.
If you’re looking for a way to help or be involved with any of our ministries, please reach out to me or the assigned ministry leader and let us know. Life is too short to wait and think you’ll help next time. It’s far better to do your best today and live with gratitude and grace today in case today is your last best opportunity to live like Jesus.
In our sermon this morning, we get to see Jesus at his most loving, most gracious, and in some ways his most glorious. That may not be how you usually think of Jesus beaten and bloody, struggling for breath as he died a vicious death on the cross. But even then he was embodying the glory of God. We live because of his death. We serve because of his sacrifice. And we love because he first loved us. Sometimes that means we do monumental things for the sake of God’s name, but most of the time it means we just do the next right thing. We reject sin while drawing near to God with all the trouble and heartache a life of faith sometimes brings. And we do it because of Jesus.
