Protecting Our Salvation

Were you ever in a club as a kid?  I don’t mean an official club like the Cub Scouts or something.  I’m talking about a club that you and your friends made up.  When I was in the third or fourth grade, I remember making up one of those clubs with a cousin and a couple of other friends.  And it was a lot of fun.  We had secret words and secret “forts” in the forest behind my house.  And our club was very exclusive, of course.  High standards and all.  And even worse than not getting in our club was getting voted out of it.  And that happened.  A lot.

We were just immature kids playing around as kids do, so we’d be in one day and out the next—and then back in a few days later.  Drama, drama, drama.

But it’s not that way with God.

Not ever.

When we are added to God’s kingdom in Christ, we are firmly settled there and nobody and nothing can remove us from God’s loving grasp.  We, however, can remove ourselves and walk away from God even losing our place in the kingdom by living a life that denies and rebels against the lordship of Jesus Christ.  But Satan cannot rip us out of God’s grip.  The salvation God provides is powerful and certain, and we need to remember that truth.  We are at war with the evil one, and it sometimes feels like we’re losing, but God has already won and the effects of his victory will someday be realized in full when Jesus comes again.  Until that great day, be strong in the Lord and the power of his might.

Dig a Little Deeper by answering the following:

  1. Are you certain of your salvation?  Why or why not? How can the Armor of God help us when it comes to protecting our salvation?
  2. In what ways is knowledge of our salvation in Christ effective to guard us against the devil’s attacks?
  3. Reread Ephesians 2:1-10 and discuss what God has already done for us and how that gives us confidence in our current battles with sin.
