Old and New School

Our high school seniors are graduating! This is a joyous time for celebration, I want to congratulate Jadyn Barber, Gabriel McMillian, Daydrianna Matos, Cyrus Nash, Cece Johnson, Chase Goulet, Kiera Stewart, Ben Belair, Andrew Szemrylo each of them has made so many accomplishments and achievements. The Manchester church of Christ family is so proud to witness our graduates grow and mature. As I stated in sermons prior this is not the end, this is only the beginning and God is going to do some amazing things in each one of their lives. God’s timing is perfect, last year for the baccalaureate I was able to preach a message to 2023’s graduating seniors “What is Your Why” My goal that Sunday was to stress the importance of walking in/finding your purpose. This Sunday morning allow me to share a message “Class is in Session” I want to take a deep dive into 1 Samuel 3: 1-11. In this passage we are introduced to a young man named Samuel, he is being called by the Lord. The Lord is literally calling Samuel by name, thankfully Eli the high priest has been mentoring Samuel all his life and we are able to witness how through the wisdom of Eli, Samuel is able to answer the call of God over his life. Naturally, we like to focus our attention on the young man Samuel, but I would argue we should pay more attention to Eli. I believe there are some crucial life lessons we can learn from the life of Eli. Many times, when we talk about generations, we as humans tend to separate the times, compare, overlook and even look down on the older folk or the young people. But get ready “old school” and get ready “new school” class is in session. We serve a God of unity. We all need each other and each one of us is a valued member of the body of Christ. Let’s see how the word of God can unify our generational differences and lead to success and growth for the kingdom of God.
