Armor of God, part 5, Gospel of Peace
I’ll admit it: I’m definitely a baby if I have to walk around outside for long in my bare feet. The soles of my feet are tender, so I don’t do well if I have to walk barefoot on hot sand or trails with sticks or gravel. I don’t run as fast without shoes on, I don’t have as much stability without shoes on, and I’m not nearly as comfortable if I’m on the move without shoes on. I would never ever go to war without the right shoes to give me grip, stability, and agility. In Ephesians 6:15, the Apostle Paul said that we need the right footwear for our spiritual battles as well.
As we’ve said the last few weeks in this series on the Armor of God from Ephesians 6:10-20, we must be aware that we are under attack by spiritual forces of evil that we cannot see. These attacks come in the forms of depression, anger, jealousy, greed, perversion, bitterness, and temptations of every kind. None of us are immune to these attacks unless we’re living in ways that in no way threaten Satan’s goals. But if we are making the daily effort to live as faithful disciples of Jesus, we can be sure that Satan will try to chop our feet out from under us. God, however, does not leave us defenseless.
This morning, we’ll talk about how the “gospel of peace” we’ve received from the Lord prepares us not only to defend ourselves against Satan’s attacks but also strengthens us to charge into enemy territory as we minister in the power of the Lord to those who have been wounded by the enemy. Be strong. Stand firm. The Lord is a mighty warrior.
