The Good News of Home
Home. It’s something we sing about, read books and watch movies about, and maybe even dream about. Home is a place where we should be able to relax, be safe, and find the love and acceptance of others. Deep down, everyone needs a home like that.
Some of us are blessed to have that where we live. If you share space with people who love you, who are loyal to you, and who make your life more enjoyable every day, you are an incredibly blessed person. Be thankful for that, but also realize that a lot of people don’t have those things.
Too many people living their legacy years are alone and lonely. Too many young people live in places full of fighting and abuse. Too many of the rest of us in the middle of life get too busy or preoccupied to realize that we should be intentionally creating safe, loving spaces for those God has given us as family. None of us, however, are perfect. We need God’s help.
One of the most beautiful things God gives his people is a home. And we’re not talking about a cockroach infested dump with twelve people squeezed into two rooms. But we’re also not talking about the kind of “mansion over the hilltop” we sometimes sing about. We’re talking about home as a place of safety and love where God dwells. We should find that when we gather as His church. We should create that wherever we live regardless of what that place looks like. And above all, we should experience that home with God in our own hearts. This is the good news of home. We’ll talk more about some of these things this morning.
God bless,
Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him. John 14:23
