“Put on the breastplate of righteousness.” This is one of those religious statements from the Bible that sounds great. It is motivational and encouraging. However, like many “religious” statements, sometimes we say things that sound great, are biblical statements, and provide encouragement, even if we may not entirely understand the word or phrase.
This may or may not be one of those for you. Regardless, it is a needed reminder for each of us. Our hearts are constantly being bombarded with information. As we noticed last week, some of it is true and some is not. Everything we encounter also has the potential to influence our hearts. Some of this may be good and some will not. How do we protect our hearts in a world that is exceptionally good at turning them away from God?
Specifically, how does the concept of righteousness fit in? What is righteousness? We use the word all the time – do we understand it? In the context of necessary spiritual armor, today we will examine the idea of righteousness and its importance for the protection that God desires for his children. It is not a piece of spiritual armor that can be neglected.
