The McMillians

Elder Selection Candidate André McMillian , and wife Jamie, and their 4 children: Dominique (18), Alexandre (17), Gabriel (14), & Madison (11). We first became members at Manchester in 2007 following a move from Germany.  From 2012-2015, we relocated to Washington, DC and became members of Falls Church Church of Christ in Virginia.  Following one school year we relocated to Ohio and became members of Centerville Church of Christ.  While at Centerville I served as a deacon having responsibility over Finance.  We moved back to Connecticut in 2015, and knew we were coming home.

I am blessed to have been raised in a God-fearing, faithful, and loving family.  It is my foundation—my rock—upon which I stand and live my life.  My family has a history of serving in the Lord’s kingdom.  My grandfather (Major McMillian) who has passed was a preacher in Lexington, KY.  I remember him driving a couple hours from Cincinnati, OH to be with God’s people there.  My father (Dr. Charles McMillian) preached at the Dorchester Church of Christ while I was in high school, and he continues to serve as an elder at Hilltop Church of Christ in Winter Haven, FL.  I am thankful for the example of strong faithful women in my life in my grandmother (Eulalee Rose) and mother (Yolanda McMillian) who now rests in Abraham’s bosom.  They came to the United States by way of Panama where they were first introduced to the Gospel.  Like Timothy, their Godly example and steadfastness continues to influence me and my family.

I was baptized at the early age in Winter Haven, FL.  I am blessed to have a loving and supportive wife in Jamie.  We learned early on to take an active role in serving God’s family.  We moved to England shortly after being married and became members of the Brandon Church of Christ, a congregation of British and American Christians.  We did not have a full-time minister nor many resources, so we grew up in an environment where we had to get involved and contribute.  We had similar experiences while living in Germany, so we do not back away from recognizing a need and taking on responsibility.   I enjoy spending time with family doing a variety of activities from movie nights to hiking to traveling.

My family have supported youth education by leading children and toddler Bible time.  We have been blessed to take the youth group to Winterfest and enjoy getting to know the future of the church.  Prior to becoming a deacon, I have taught our Men’s classes.  I later assumed responsibility for the Adult Education ministry which grew from a singular-focused congressional study into offering a variety of Bible studies and fostering inter-generational fellowship over the last few years.

I have been fortunate to lead multi-disciplinary teams as a Pratt & Whitney employee as well as an Air Force reservist.  Throughout my career, I have held various leadership positions with increased responsibility.  I am best known for strategic leadership, building high performing teams, and mentoring.  I have also been an international sponsor for senior leaders from a variety of countries who were getting their advanced degrees in the US.  Based upon what I have seen and have been involved in, my experience in working with people is where I feel I can add value.  Being an elder is the model for spiritual leadership, and my desire to serve in this capacity is to work with and support our members.  I have admired the strong leadership we have at Manchester and would enjoy serving alongside our ministers, elders, and deacons all for God’s glory and eternal purpose.

Deacon Selection Candidate Chris Barclay

The Barclay Family

Christopher Barclay, Wife: Caitlin Barclay, Child: Griffin Barclay (2)The Barclays have worshiped with the Manchester Church of Christ since 2016. Raised in Georgia, Chris and Caitlin were raised in Churches of Christ and put on Christ in baptism during their early teen years. In churches in Georgia and Florida, Caitlin has taught classes from preschool to 5th grade and mentored teen girls. At Manchester, Caitlin coordinates children’s time and is an active member of the OAKS and FriendSpeak teams. At Manchester, Chris has taught youth group and adult classes, preached, and assisted educational and small group ministries.

The Barclays welcome the excitement and challenge that comes with “equipping the saints for the work of ministry” (Eph 12:12) in serving our children’s education ministry at Manchester. Chris and Caitlin have classroom experience in churches, faith-based schools, and public schools. They recognize that while children’s spiritual education begins at home, Bible classes give a unique and important opportunity for building cross-generational and same-age relationships that help “the body grow so that it builds itself up in love” (Eph 12:16).

Chris holds a PhD in school psychology and serves as a licensed psychologist and consultant to local schools – specializing in professional development, classroom management, school climate, and the education of children with social-emotional challenges. He also teaches classes in psychology and education at UConn and Purdue Global. Caitlin holds a dual bachelor’s degree in general and special education with 7 years of Kindergarten experience across faith-based and public schools before becoming a full-time teacher of Griffin at home. She also has experience teaching English and ministering to children in Honduras and China. Outside of these roles at work and in the church, Chris and Caitlin both enjoy raising Griffin, reading, travel, soccer, hiking, kayaking, and biking.
