Wrapped in Christ: Becoming a Gift That Reflects the Treasure Within

In this Christmas season, I found myself thinking about the wrapping of gifts… and that led me to thinking about the gift our lives are meant to be to those around us.

Are we wrapped on the outside the same way we are on the inside?

Or would we even be recognizable?

If we are truly wrapped in the love of Christ, then the beauty within us will naturally show on the outside.

The Wrapping and the Treasure

Imagine walking into a room full of beautifully wrapped gifts.

Some are elegant and polished; others are simple and plain.

Some shine and draw attention, while others look ordinary and easy to overlook.

If we judged by wrapping alone, we’d miss the treasure hidden inside.

In the same way, Scripture teaches us that the true beauty, power, and identity of a believer isn’t found in our outward wrapping—our personality, past, skills, weaknesses, or limitations.

It’s found in what (and Who) we are wrapped in spiritually.

God invites every believer to put on Christ Himself.

Wrapped in Identity: Putting On Christ

“Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 13:14

This isn’t just a suggestion. It’s an invitation into a whole new identity—one that reflects our Savior.

Every day, Jesus invites us to “put Him on”:

  • His character
  • His mind
  • His servant’s heart
  • His love

We are not defined by our outer wrapping but by Christ who covers and fills us.

Wrapped in Character: Clothed with Compassion and Love

“Clothe yourselves with compassion… and over all these virtues put on love.” Colossians 3:12–14

When God clothes us, He doesn’t just cover us—He changes us.

The garments He gives reshape our words, actions, and attitudes.

Putting on Christ changes what people experience when they encounter us:

  • We see others differently—through compassion.
  • We serve differently—through humility.
  • We respond differently—through love.

“We become the pleasing aroma of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 2:14–15

Every believer carries a fragrance—not the scent of our struggles or our past, but the beauty of the hope within us.

Just as a wrapped gift can carry a scent from its contents, our lives carry the aroma of Christ’s presence:

  • In our conversations
  • In our decisions
  • In our relationships
  • In our service

People may not remember every word we say, but they will remember the aroma of being with us.

Wrapped in Protection: Covered by God

“He has clothed me with garments of salvation and a robe of righteousness.” Isaiah 61:10

God doesn’t just wrap us in purpose.

He wraps us in His protection.

We are covered in:

  • Salvation
  • Righteousness
  • Praise
  • Strength

Even when life feels messy or unpresentable, God’s clothing on us remains beautiful, steady, and secure.

Wrapped in Transformation: Putting On the New Self

“…put on the new self, created to be like God.” Ephesians 4:22–24

Christ doesn’t wrap us to hide us—He wraps us to transform us.

Every day we get to “take off” the old and “put on” the new:

  • Anger → peace
  • Pride → humility
  • Fear → faith
  • Self-focus → Christ-focus

We are His masterpiece.         (Ephesians 2:10).

A work of grace being shaped from the inside out.

Consider this:

  • What “wrapping” do you tend to focus on—appearance, ability, insecurity, comparison?
  • Which spiritual garment do you most need to “put on” today—love, patience, compassion, courage?
  • What aroma lingers after people leave your presence?

A Prayerful Closing

Lord, thank You for wrapping us in Your grace, covering us in Your righteousness, and clothing us with Your love.

Help us put on Christ daily. Help us walk clothed in compassion and humility, carrying Your aroma wherever we go.

Strip away the old patterns that no longer reflect who we are, and dress us in the new life You’ve given us.

May others see and sense You in everything about us.

Make our lives a gift that reflects the treasure within—Christ, the hope of glory.
