Can’t Sleep?
The inability to sleep can be compared to the disruption of peace, as it is often the result of significant decisions, stressful relationships, illness, or work-related demands that erode our trust.
As illustrated in Esther 6:1, one man’s insomnia played a crucial role in saving another man’s life. The king, unable to sleep, ordered the book of chronicles to be read to him, thereby thwarting an enemy’s plan to kill the man he saved the following morning.
This story highlights how God can use even the most seemingly insignificant events, such as insomnia, to prevent evil plans and grant protection to the innocent.
When you find yourself lying awake at night, preoccupied with thoughts, try to view the situation from a spiritual perspective. You may be in a position to help someone in need, lacking the power or resources to help themselves. Get up and pray, for it is possible that God has awakened you for such a time as this, to act.
Paul tells us the Lord is near. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. “. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:5-7
Paul’s comfort continues in Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him.”
Peter tells us where to cast all of our anxiety, it is on Jesus, because He cares for us. 1 Peter 5:7
God is always at work, in obvious ways, and in unseen ways.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God ; believe also in me.”~Jesus (John 14:1)
May we learn to embrace life’s unexpected distractions like insomnia, recognizing that they may not be about us, but rather a means through which God is working through us.
When we know our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 121:2), and are open to His prompts, we can sleep.
