The world’s definition of patient is being able to accept or tolerate delays, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious. In order to let this character define us; we have to start with being thankful. I am thankful God is patient with us. He is patient because He wants all to be saved. God lays out His expectation for us to be patient in 1 Thessalonians 5:14, 17-22.
It may be wise to define for ourselves why we need to practice His patient plan.
God’s Patient Plan
1. Encourage each other.
2. Help the weak
3. Always be joyful.
4. Never stop praying.
5. Be thankful in all things.
These 5 practices are God’s will for us who belong to Christ Jesus. It is sobering to think doing otherwise can stifle the Holy Spirit who lives in us. God knows if we are encouraging, helpful, prayerful, joyful, and thankful, we will experience less anxiety and annoyance with each other. So hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil; by following God’s Patient Plan. When we are not patient; one or more of the 5 practices are lacking in us, and we hold back the work of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
What area of your life is calling for a deeper commitment to God’s Patient Plan?
During this season of thankfulness, be mindful of who around you is patient, and thank them. Give the gift of patience to someone who may be pressing on your last reserved nerve, your doing so will bless you both, and will bring a smile to our Lord’s face.
