Ever think about sin wanting you? Well, it does.
Sin is an aggression against divine law; which is what Satan hopes will defeat God. Cain was told to master it, and the message is true for us.
“Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” Genesis 4:6-7
It is no accident that prayer would enter the scene. It was recorded to have begun around the time Seth’s son, Enosh, was born. “At that time people began to pray to the Lord.” Genesis 4:26
Prayer remains the best and most effective response to sin.
Jesus modeled it for us in all areas of His life, especially in His ministry years, in the wilderness when Satan tried to tempt him, and again in the garden before He gave His ultimate sacrifice for humankind.
Jesus begged his disciples to stay awake and pray. “Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!” Matthew 26:41
Jesus understood our weakness and knew prayer was the most powerful weapon against what threatens our faith. We must keep watch and pray.
Yes, sin wants you and me, and is crouching at our door as it was for Cain. And we must respond to it as the Lord instructed him to; subdue it and be its master.
