A Healthy Balance, part 6

A Healthy Balance, part 6

A Healthy Balance, part 6

Recently I saw something on Facebook that caught my attention.  It was a creative way of reminding us that all seasons of life present obstacles to our service to God.  Without a healthy, biblical balance it is almost a guarantee that we will be less than enthusiastic about serving God.  Consider the following thoughts that I came across the other day.

  • We can be too young to seek God as teenagers.
  • We can be too independent to seek God as a young adult.
  • We can be too happy to seek God during the early part of marriage.
  • We can be too busy to seek God as we finally progress through our profession.
  • We can be too tired to seek God as we retire and wind down.

For a reference point, consider the words Isaiah.  “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near” (Isaiah 55.6).  Each previous article about balance in this series culminates into this idea.  A healthy balance allows us a platform to incorporate God into our lives in the way that God desires.  An unhealthy balance in our studies causes us to misunderstand God.  An unhealthy balance in priorities causes us to miss God.  An unhealthy balance between God and the world causes us to replace God.

Every stage of life provides reasons to be less than diligent in our faithfulness to God.  In the words of Jesus, if you ask, seek, and knock for opportunities to distract you from God, you will most surely find them.  And if I may be blunt, we are a society that constantly seeks endeavors that really have nothing to do with God’s kingdom.  The ideas that I referenced earlier end on a somber note.  There are a number of times when it is too late to seek God.

  • Eventually it will be too late to influence your children toward God
  • Eventually it will be too late to truly commit your own life to God

These are sober realities that are learned the hard way by Christians across our nation every day.  Allow me to plead with you, for the sake of yourself and our God, develop a healthy balance as portrayed in the Bible.  As always, I and others are here to help if you need it.
