Obituary for Roland Carty

Roland Vivian Carty, 92, of Hartford, beloved husband for 49 years of the late Anna Mae Coffman, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017, at his home. Born in Lucky Hill, St. Mary, Jamaica, West Indies on March 21, 1925, son of the late Albert Alexander and Adella (Osbourne) Carty, he was raised in Lucky Hill before immigrating to the United States in 1963. Roland lived in Trenton, NJ for five years before moving to Hartford in 1968 to be closer to his brother, Edwin. 

Roland worked as the sexton at the Horace Bushnell Church in Hartford before taking a position at Hartford Hospital where he worked until his retirement in 1989. Roland was a devout Christian and always was an active part of his church family. He was a member of the Northside Church of Christ in Hartford and the former Simsbury Church of Christ before joining the Manchester Church of Christ in 2000. Roland lived out his faith in his everyday life. He was humble, helpful, and a great role model to his five sons. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and writing poetry, singing hymns, reading his Bible, and tending to the flower and vegetable gardens around his home.
He leaves to mourn his passing, four sons, Anthony N. Carty and his wife Gwendolyn of Bloomfield, Lloyd A. Carty of Hartford, Keith Leopold Carty and his fiancé Letitia Pierce of Hartford, and James Queen and his wife Martha of Trenton, NJ; a brother, Edwin W. Carty of Bloomfield; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Clifton L. Fleming; three brothers, Leopold, Noel and Charles Carty; and a sister, Cislyn Carty. His family will receive friends on Monday, August 7, 10-11 a.m., followed by a Homegoing service at 11 a.m., at the Manchester Church of Christ, 595 Tolland Turnpike, Manchester.
